Thodoris (Theo) Papadoulakis is a Greek director. He was born in 1974 in South Africa. He studied Radio and Television Production at the University of Salford in England and did his MA in Film Directing and Production at the Northern Film School in Leeds. Today, he lives and works in Greece. He has directed 3 TV series, 7 short films and has been awarded with 70 international awards.
Based on the best-selling English novel The Island by Victoria Hislop, the series takes place on the island of Spinalonga, off the coast of Crete, and in the village of Plaka which lies within swimming distance across it. The series premiered on 11 October 2010 to record ratings and critical acclaim. It is the most expensive Greek television production ever with a budget of €4 million.

George, a charismatic 11 year-old boy, moves with with father and two siblings to a village in Crete, trying to start over after his mother's death. From the very first night, George's nightmares begin to come to life. But he won't have to face them alone, since he soon becomes member of the "Commandos", a local kids' gang. Together, they take up the mission of freeing a "weird" young man, Dodo, from the chains of the infamous "Dragons" gang and put an end to the vendetta that haunts the village.
