This VPRO's ‘summer classic’ is based on an equally simple and refreshing idea that originated in 1988: When during the summer most of the channels are showing reruns, ask interesting people people to curate their ‘favorite television evening’ and let them clarify the fragments in a long-form interview/conversation. The programme was first aired in 1988. Each episode takes up an entire Sunday evening, lasting typically three hours. It consists of an in-depth studio interview with a notable Dutch, Belgian or other Dutch-speaking foreigner, interspersed with cinema or television footage selected by the guest, which is subsequently discussed. Guests include writers, scientists, television personalities, politicians or business people.

BrainTeaser was a British game show, first broadcast in 2002, produced by Endemol UK subsidiary Cheetah Productions. BrainTeaser was live, with phone-in viewer puzzles being announced and played during the show in addition to the studio game. During its run until 7 March 2007, it aired on Channel 5 Mondays to Fridays, usually for an hour around lunchtime, with Alex Lovell as the main presenter. Until the end of 2005, Lovell rotated presenting duties on a weekly basis with Craig Stevens, Rachel Pierman and Jonny Gould, at different times in the show's history. The programme was suspended on 8 March 2007 after it was revealed that the production company had misled viewers regarding winners of the viewer puzzles. Actions included publishing fictional names and presenting a member of the production team as a 'winner'. On 26 June 2007, Five announced that the show had been axed after 7 March 2007 due to the Phone-In Scandal.

The European Soundmix Show was an imitation talent competition held yearly from 1996 to 1999, with two special shows in 2001 and 2002. The show was an international version of Joop van den Ende's "Henny Huisman Soundmixshow", which was aired on Dutch television the first time in 1985. Various European countries competed with one participant each imitating a famous artist, and most often, the participant was the winner of the national competition the same or the previous year. Some participants were, however, chosen internally by the national television company, without any pre-selection. The winner was chosen by a jury vote. Every country sent two jury members, which together awarded their top-4 countries 5, 3, 2 and 1 points.
