Steven Moffat

Steven W. Moffat is a British TV writer. After he established himself as a comedic writer early on in his career, writing the sitcoms 'Couplings' and 'Press Gang' in the 1990's, he later-on also became well-known as an horror and adventure writer throughout the 2000's, writing for the revival of popular BBC science-fiction show 'Doctor Who', receiving the most BAFTA awards any 'Doctor Who' writer has ever received for his scripts for the show. From 2010 on, he took over as show runner of 'Doctor Who' from Russell T. Davies, passing the job on to Chris Chibnall in 2018 after Series 10. In 2010, he also created BBC's literary adaptation crime series 'Sherlock' with Mark Gatiss, on which they concluded their work in 2017 after four series, after it had become an international success and made it's title stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman world-famous. In 2011, he wrote the script for a major Hollywood blockbuster, Steven Spielberg's 'The Adventures of Tintin'. 2020, he continued work with Gatiss, as they created another literary adaptation for the BBC, 'Dracula'. He is one of Britain's most distinguished and well-known TV writers.

Doctor Who: The Wedding of River Song Prequel

A digital clock on a computer screen flickers between 05:02:57 PM and 05:02:58 PM. A series of black and white video feeds from security cameras reveal the place to be Area 52. The last shot is of an apparently empty specimen tank. Two soldiers, each wearing an eyepatch, make their way down a corridor, stopping next to a pair of empty tanks nestled into alcoves along the wall. The soldiers check the tanks, report them as secured, then move on. After the soldiers leave, a Silent appears in each tank, alive and awake. Footage from security cameras throughout the base reveal there are at least one hundred and twelve identical tanks, with the implication that all of them contain Silents. Behind a barricaded wooden door in another room containing an ancient Egyptian sarcophagus, a woman in a black suit stands with her back turned to the camera. As the camera zooms in, she turns. It is River Song, with an eyepatch over her right eye. She smiles.

Doctor Who Confidential

Doctor Who Confidential is a documentary series created by the British Broadcasting Corporation to complement the revival of the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. Each episode was broadcast on BBC Three on Saturdays, immediately after the broadcast of the weekly television episode on BBC One. The running time of the first two series was 30 minutes, being extended to 45 minutes in the third. BBC Three also broadcast a cut-down edition of the programme, lasting 15 minutes, shown after the repeats on Sundays and Fridays and after the weekday evening repeats of earlier seasons. Described as focusing on the human element of the series, Confidential features behind-the-scenes footage on the making of Doctor Who through clips and interviews with the cast, production crew and other people, including those who have participated in the television series over the years of its existence. Each episode deals with a different topic, and in most cases refers to the Doctor Who episode that preceded it. There have also been two episodes of Doctor Who Confidential broadcast apart from the showing of Doctor Who episodes: in November 2006 an edition subtitled "Music and Monsters" was produced going behind the scenes of a televised concert of soundtrack music produced as part of that year's Children in Need appeal, and on 3 January 2009, a special edition was broadcast to announce the actor chosen to play the Eleventh Doctor.

Joking Apart

Joking Apart is a BBC television sitcom written by Steven Moffat about the rise and fall of a relationship. It juxtaposes a couple, Mark and Becky, who fall in love and marry, before getting separated and finally divorced. The twelve episodes, broadcast between 1993 and 1995, were directed by Bob Spiers and produced by Andre Ptaszynski for independent production company Pola Jones. The show is semi-autobiographical; it was inspired by the then recent separation of Moffat and his first wife. Some of the episodes in the first series followed a non-linear parallel structure, contrasting the rise of the relationship with the fall. Other episodes were ensemble farces, predominantly including the couple's friends Robert and Tracy. Paul Mark Elliott also appeared as Trevor, Becky's lover.
