Osamu Tanabe

Osamu Tanabe (田辺修, Tanabe Osamu, born 1965) is a Japanese animator born in Okayama Prefecture. He joined Oh! Production in 1987. After that, he became freelance and worked mainly in Studio Ghibli works.

Isao Takahata and His Tale of The Princess Kaguya

For his first film in fourteen years, animation director Isao Takahata embarked on a visually sumptuous adaptation of The Tale of the Bamboo-Cutter. A dream project for the director that would hopefully establish the recently formed Ghibli Studio 7, created to meet the demands of a new type of modern animation process. Ginga is a simple—yet energetic—country girl, living with her father far from the capital city of the empire in ancient China.
