Ins Choi

Ins Choi is a Canadian playright and actor who was born in Korea. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting from York University. As a writer, his debut play, Kim’s Convenience, won the Best New Play award and the Patron’s Pick at the 2011 Toronto Fringe festival. It then launched Soulpepper Theatre Company’s 2012 season, toured across Canada, and was adapted into a television series of the same name for CBC. He lives in Toronto with his wife and two children.

Kim's Convenience

The funny, heartfelt story of The Kims, a Korean-Canadian family, running a convenience store in downtown Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Kim ('Appa' and 'Umma') immigrated to Toronto in the '80s to set up shop near Regent Park and had two kids, Jung and Janet who are now young adults. However, when Jung was 16, he and Appa had a major falling out involving a physical fight, stolen money and Jung leaving home. Father and son have been estranged since.
