Fußläufig entfernt finden sich die Geschäftsstraße Bridge Street in der sich auch das ‚Bridge Street Cafe‘ von Alan Beale findet, die hochpreisige George Street und die Turpin Road mit dem Postamt, dem Wettbüro und der Frittenbude ‚Beale‘s Place’ – und natürlich der Nachtclub ‚Scarlett‘ von Johnny Allen. Rund um den Albert Suare und seine ‚Bank der Tränen‘ treffen sie alle aufeinander, die Butchers, Watts, Mitchells, Di Marcos, Beales und die Fowlers. Es kommt zu Krach und Streitereien, Insolvenz, Hochzeiten und Todesfällen. Thematisiert werden HIV, Vergewaltigung, Sterbehilfe und Kindesmissbrauch.
