Gary (Josh Gad) vive con su hija Emma (Ariel Donoghue) en los suburbios de Adelaida, en el sur de Australia. Ambos se están recuperando de la pérdida de la madre de Emma y luchan por conectar entre sí. Una mañana, el coche en el que van Gary y Emma es embestido por un Jeep que se salta un semáforo en rojo.
