"Si se puede tratar un segundo antes, el corazón podría empezar a latir de nuevo. Si hay un helicóptero adicional, otra vida en peligro pueden ser salvada. Si otra vida puede ser salvada, la comunidad médica japonesa puede ganar confianza. Hay muchas vidas en este país que pueden salvarse". Code Blue es un dorama que corresponde al género "drama médico". La historia gira en torno a un grupo de residentes médicos asignados al Hospital de la Universidad del Norte de Shoyo. En este lugar se ha implementado un nuevo sistema de salvamento de emergencia llamado "Dr. Heli", el cual consiste en envíar un equipo médico a los pacientes en un helicóptero para proporcionar atención médica en el campo tan pronto como sea posible. Aizawa Kosaku (Yamashita Tomohisa), Shiraishi Kei (Aragaki Yui), Hiyama Mihoko (Toda Erika) y Fujikawa Kazuo (Asari Yosuke) conforman el grupo de jóvenes residentes recién llegados, que entran al programa "Dr. Heli" asistidos por Saejima Haruka (Higa Manami). Quien está a cargo de ellos es el Dr. Kuruda Shuji (Yanagiba Toshiro), sin embargo, este se muestra renuente a tenerlos a cargo (aunque termina aceptando de muy mala gana), lo que hará que los trate de manera estricta y severa (aunque en el fondo reconociendo que todos ellos tienen un gran potencial). Cada uno de los protagonistas tiene una personalidad muy marcada, mientras Aizawa se muestra como alguien frio que se interesa solo por los casos sin importarle los pacientes (cosa que en el fondo no es verdad), Shiraishi es muy abierta para con sus sentimientos y no puede demostrar fortaleza, la Dra. Hiyama, por otra parte, es ruda y no tolera cometer errores, en tanto que Fujikawa es quien vive dándole ánimos a todo el mundo pero es el mas torpe. El grupo de médicos no solo se verán luchando contra los casos de los pacientes sino tambien contra ellos mismos ya que cada uno tiene su propio drama personal.
