Se autodefine como un programa de noticias falso y enfoca su particular punto de vista en la actualidad, las noticias, los personajes políticos y de los medios de comunicación fundamentalmente con el objetivo de hacer reír. Generalmente el show comienza con un monólogo de Jon Stewart relacionado con los principales titulares de la actualidad.
