El Conde Pátula ha estado activo como un vampiro durante muchos siglos. Sólo podía ser destruido por la exposición a la luz solar o atravesándole el corazón con una estaca de madera. De hecho, Duckula ha muerto numerosas veces, pero siempre regresa a través de un ritual místico, que se realiza una vez cada siglo, cuando la Luna está situada en la Octava Casa de Acuario (la introducción de cada capítulo muestra el ritual de resurrección realizado por Igor). Cada vez que el vampiro resucita, posee poco o ningún recuerdo de su vida pasada, por lo que cada encarnación es libre de desarrollar su propia personalidad y perseguir sus propios intereses personales
