Corleone es un pueblo siciliano del que surgieron capos mafiosos tan conocidos como Michele Navarra, Luciano Liggio, Leoluca Bagarella o Bernardo Provenzano. En la segunda mitad del siglo XX, el capo de los capos fue Salvatore Riina (Totò Riina) apodado "La Bestia" por su extremada violencia, y "El Corto" debido a su baja estatura. "El capo de Corleone" describe su vida desde que cumplió 13 años, una vida al margen de la ley, en la clandestinidad, a salvo de la ley gracias al miedo y terror que causaba y a los largos hilos que la Cosa Nostra tejía en la política y la justicia italianas.
