Años 20. Una década en la que parece que el país empieza a florecer de nuevo después de levantarse de las cenizas de “la gran guerra” (I Guerra Mundial). España se ha convertido en un país que intenta imitar al resto de Europa poniéndose “a la moda”. Al menos esa fue la intención de Alfonso Abascal al montar la sala de fiestas: “El Continental”. Un café elegante y un poco pretencioso para la época. Su dueño, Alfonso Abascal es un hombre decidido, valiente y con las ideas claras. Sabía que levantar un local así tras la I Guerra Mundial no sería algo fácil. Para ello pidió ayuda a unos prestamistas confiando que la mejora del local solventaría la deuda. Pero la suerte no estuvo de su parte y el local no logró despegar. A partir de ese momento comienza el drama y la tragedia: como no puede hacer frente a la deuda, Alfonso toma una decisión que acarreará terribles consecuencias para su vida y la de sus hijos, Andrea y Jesús.
