Candela es una jueza que acaban de destinar a El Hierro, la isla más remota del archipiélago canario. No le va a resultar fácil adaptarse a la vida en una comunidad que, como ella misma, tiene un fuerte carácter. De hecho, la han enviado allí como castigo por su comportamiento heterodoxo. Nada más llegar a la isla, Candela tiene que instruir un caso complicado: aparece asesinado Fran, un joven herreño, el mismo día en el que iba a casarse con la hija de Díaz, un oscuro empresario que enseguida se convierte en el principal sospechoso del crimen.
