Una diseñadora gráfica de Tokyo, autora de una mascota muy popular, es la envidia de todos sus compañeros de trabajo y, al mismo tiempo, por ello, sufre una cierta depresión porque la dejan de lado, además de la presión de su jefe para la creación de una nueva mascota con tanto reclamo como su anterior trabajo. Un día, regresando a casa de noche, es atacada violentamente y recibe un golpe, siendo hospitalizada. Pero muchos creen que no es más que una invención suya para deshacerse de la situación en la que se encuentra en su trabajo en ese momento. El autor del ataque es Shounen Bat, un chico en patines y con un bate ligeramete doblado que se convierte en una auténtica leyenda urbana al ir golpeando a personas en sus cabezas durante la noche por toda la ciudad. Dos detectives se encargarán de llevar el caso e irán comprobando que no todo es lo que parece...
