Oh my God. They have guns!

An LA detective is murdered because she has microfilm with the recipe to make cocaine cookies. Two cops partner to find and stop the fiends before they can dope the nation by distributing their wares via the 'Wilderness Girls' cookie drive.

"National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1," released in 1993 and produced by 3 Arts Entertainment and New Line Cinema, is a comedic gem that brilliantly parodies the action-packed buddy cop films of its era. Directed by Gene Quintano, the film stars Emilio Estevez and Samuel L. Jackson as Detectives Colt and Luger, respectively, who are tasked with solving the murder of the chief's daughter and uncovering a sinister plot involving a dangerous new drug. The movie cleverly spoofs iconic scenes and tropes from films like "Lethal Weapon" and "Die Hard," delivering a barrage of gags and one-liners that keep the audience laughing from start to finish. The film's humor is relentless, with a rapid-fire delivery of visual and verbal jokes that pay homage to and simultaneously lampoon the conventions of the genre. From the opening scene, where a character is seen reading a magazine titled "Playboy Cop," to the absurdly over-the-top action sequences, "Loaded Weapon 1" never takes itself seriously. Estevez and Jackson's chemistry is a highlight, as they navigate the absurdity of their situations with perfect comedic timing. The supporting cast, including Tim Curry, Whoopi Goldberg, and Denis Leary, adds to the film's charm with their exaggerated performances and memorable cameos. One of the standout aspects of "Loaded Weapon 1" is its clever use of meta-humor and fourth-wall breaks. The film frequently acknowledges its own absurdity, with characters directly addressing the audience or commenting on the clichés they are enacting. This self-awareness adds an extra layer of humor and sophistication to the parody, making it more than just a simple spoof. The script, penned by Don Holley and Gene Quintano, is packed with clever references and Easter eggs that reward attentive viewers and fans of the genre. Despite its critical reception being mixed at the time of release, "National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1" has since gained a cult following for its bold and unapologetic approach to comedy. The film's willingness to push boundaries and its sheer volume of jokes make it a standout in the parody genre. For fans of '90s cinema and those who appreciate a good laugh at the expense of action movie clichés, "Loaded Weapon 1" remains a hilarious and entertaining watch.
