漫画家・平田真貴子の原作による大正時代を舞台にしたレトロタッチの大河メロドラマをOVA化（全4巻）。 20歳の誕生日を迎えた羽生燁子。侯爵の娘である燁子は華やかな誕生パーティを開くが、貧しい環境で育ったメイドの内田沙羅もまた今日が20歳の誕生日だった。古い因習を嫌う燁子は沙羅を友人として扱うが、沙羅自身は身分の差を意識してしまう一方、燁子の婚約者・西園寺清洲にほのかな恋心をよせる。このパーティの後、チンピラにからまれる燁子と清洲だが、そんな二人を青葉組の組員にして鷹の異名を持つヤクザの伊東タカオが救った。これを機に自由奔放な愛に目覚めた燁子は鷹を激しく追う一方、清洲を沙羅に半ば押し付けてしまう。だがこれが原因で沙羅は羽生家を去ることとなるが、自分自身が孤児であった鷹はそんな彼女の力になろうとする……。 本作のアニメの実制作はマジックバスが担当。監督は同社の代表・出崎哲の実弟にして巨匠演出家の出崎統が務めた。作画監督やキャラクターデザインも監督とは縁の深い杉野昭夫が手がけている。
