原作漫画では主人公は特例判事補の坂間真平であるが、テレビドラマ化するにあたり、原作者了承のもと、原作漫画で脇役であった入間みちおを主人公に据え、小太りでメガネをかけた中年裁判官という風貌をおしゃれ髭を生やすイケメン裁判官に変更し、坂間真平も女性の坂間千鶴に人物設定が変更されたうえ、物語が再構築されている。 竹野内豊と黒木華は本作が初共演で、ともに初めての裁判官役を演じる。
