年に一度、アメリカ・ニューヨークで開催されるトニー賞授賞式。トニー賞とは、該当期間中にニューヨークのブロードウェイで上演された演劇、ミュージカル作品を対象に贈られる賞で、アメリカ演劇界で最も権威のある賞とされている。作品賞や俳優賞はもちろん、演出家、デザイナーらスタッフへの部門が演劇とミュージカルそれぞれに設けられており、まさに1年のブロードウェイを総括するアワードといえる。また、再演作品に贈られるリバイバル作品賞があるのもこの賞の特徴だ。授賞式全体がショーアップされ、ブロードウェイの現状が垣間見られる豪華パフォーマンスが見どころとなっている。
