Сериал повествует о том, что на нашей планете живёт достаточно странных и страшных существ, которые не только прячутся в отдалённых уголках природы, но и живут среди нас. Главной героиней сериала является таинственная Хелен Магнус. Она набрала себе команду помощников - бывшего судмедэксперта доктора Уилла Цеммермана, технологический гика Генри, мошенницу Кейт Фрилендер, а также собственную дочь Эшли. Основной целью этой команды является выслеживание странных существ, расследование загадочных случаев, охрана нас от ужасов, которые рядом с нами, и что немаловажно, охрана ужасов от нас.
