Сериал «Мутанты Икс» повествует о приключениях людей - мутантов, ставших изгоями в результате экспериментов, проводящихся в области генной инженерии. Вследствие научных опытов, тайно проводимых по заданию правительства, они приобретают сверхъестественные силы и способности.
Понимая, что ситуация выходит из-под контроля, организация, по приказу которой были созданы эти супермены, теперь пытается уничтожить своих «детей». Один из ученых, принимающий непосредственное участие в разработке программы, Адам, решает помочь мутантам. Он создает команду, состоящую из четырех мутантов, так называемую команду «Мутанты Икс».
Цель этой команды искать своих соплеменников, чтобы помочь им принять и научиться управлять своими экстраординарными возможностями, а также защитить их от своих же создателей, в частности от одного из коллег Адама, Мейсона Экхарта.
