Действие сериала происходит в 2267 году. Раса, называющаяся «дракхи», во время атаки на Землю вносит в ее атмосферу нановирус (наподобие т. н. «серой слизи»). Ученые Земли и рас Межзвёздного Альянса сумели выяснить, что нановирус недоработан ввиду малых сроков адаптации вируса под биологию землян, и на его полную адаптацию под человеческий организм требуется приблизительно пять лет.
