В 9784 году по летоисчислению Содружества, ницшеанцы подняли восстание против Содружества Систем, стремясь избавиться от контроля и установить собственный порядок. Началась война, исход которой должен был изменить весь мир. Дабы не допустить победы врага, на встречу их флоту был направлен крейсер Звёздной Гвардии Содружества «Созвездие Андромеды» под командованием капитана Дилана Ханта. Однако, самое мощное судно из когда-либо созданных людьми, попало в западню ницшеанского флота. Не видя никаких возможностей спастись, капитан отдал приказ экипажу эвакуироваться с корабля. Сама же «Андромеды» вместе с капитаном Хантом стала пленником временной аномалии на границе чёрной дыры в системе Гефеста. Вскоре Содружество Систем было повержено, однако, Ницшеанская Империя так и не была создана. С этого времени вселенная погрузилась во тьму и хаос «Долгой Ночи». Прошло 303 года, прежде чем корабль «Эврика Мару», находящийся под командованием Беки Валентайн, смог вытащить когда-то могущественное судно Содружества с орбиты чёрной дыры. Для всех жителей вселенной прошло 303 года, тогда как для Дилана Ханта прошло лишь одно мгновение. After the Andromeda is pulled free, Hunt is unfrozen and forced to defend his ship against the salvagers and the Nietzschean mercenaries lead by Tyr Anasazi.
