Уверенные, что опасность миновала, автоботы, тем не менее, оставляют на Земле небольшую группу защитников под руководством Оптимуса Прайма. Предосторожность оказывается не напрасной — три года спустя Мегатрон объявляется снова и приносит с собой Тёмный Энергон, с помощью которого рассчитывает отомстить за прошлое поражение.
