У талантливого хирурга Майкла Холта «золотые» руки, которые спасают жизни многих людей и тем самым приносят своему хозяину немалый доход. Холт, благодаря своему солидному заработку, ибо его клиенты в основном с тугими кошельками, ни в чем себе не отказывает. Казалось бы, жизнь его налажена, принципы сформированы и все хорошо. Но перемены как раз любят тех, кто их не ждет. Неожиданно для доктора, ему начинает являться дух его умершей жены Анны. При жизни супруга тоже работала врачом, но в отличии от него она лечила пациентов бесплатной клиники. И вот теперь ее дух явился с просьбой, позаботиться о ее бывшем месте работы. И в это время у Холта начинается страстная переоценка жизни, в частности смена отношения к своим пациентам.
