По замыслу создателей, сериал является пародией на реалити-шоу, в котором главными персонажами (сожителями одного дома, обставленного скрытыми камерами) являются мультипликационные персонажи разных эпох и жанров.
Восемь главных героев являются не только пародиями на известных вымышленных персонажей из поп-культуры, но параллельно ещё и пародиями на стереотипных участников американских реалити-шоу. Они живут в одном доме, принимая участие в вымышленном реалити-шоу, которое так и называется — «Drawn Together». Это название является каламбуром: английское словосочетание «drawn together» действительно существует и переводится как «собранные вместе» или «сведённые вместе»; в то же время второе и более известное значение глагола draw — «рисовать» — даёт ещё один вариант перевода: «нарисованные вместе», что является отсылкой к природе персонажей и самого сериала.
