1984-й. Провинциальный польский городок потрясён двойным убийством: в лесу с перерезанными глотками обнаружены молодая проститутка и глава городского спорткомитета. Милиция быстро находит козла отпущения и заминает дело. Но репортеры газеты «Вечерний курьер» — циник Витольд и вчерашний студент журфака Петр — обнаруживают несостыковки. Обвиняемый всю ночь провёл в местном баре, к тому же в городе на днях покончили с собой двое подростков, и, кажется, все четыре смерти как-то связаны.
