The boss of the shipyard, Felix Ostendorf, tries almost desperately to make it clear to him that that won't be enough. But Bruhns remains firm, because he gains much personal advantage from his control over who is allowed to work. When Commissioner Borowski is called to the shipyard the next morning, Bruhns lies dead on a work raft.
