Overview: The Originals backdoor pilot episode originally aired as an episode of The Vampire Diaries season 4, titled "The Originals" (S04E20). A similar but somewhat altered and re-cut version of this episode is known as the Director's Cut, which premiered at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2013. While the bulk of the episode remained the same as what was already seen in The Vampire Diaries, some new scenes had been added, while others had been cut. Amongst the changes are the introduction of Davina (Danielle Campbell), the only major character who did not appear at all in “The Originals” episode. This Director's Cut Pilot is different again from what will air when the show premieres in the fall. The first episode in Oct 2013 is set to continue chronologically from what the Vampire Diaries (and also from this Directors Cut) have already introduced.
