What Happens In Antarctica... Stays in Antarctica
In this spoof of "March of the Penguins," nature footage of penguins near the South Pole gets a soundtrack of human voices. Carl and Jimmy, best friends, walk 70 miles to the mating grounds where the female penguins wait. The huddled masses of females - especially Melissa and Vicki - talk about males, mating, and what might happen this year. Carl, Jimmy, and the other males make the long trek talking about food, fornication and flatulence. Until this year, Carl's sex life has been dismal, but he falls hard for Melissa. She seems to like him. A crisis develops when Jimmy comes upon something soft in the dark. Can friends forgive? Does parenthood await Carl and Melissa?
"Farce of the Penguins" is a 2006 mockumentary film that hilariously parodies the acclaimed documentary "March of the Penguins." Produced by FOTP Productions in the United States, this film takes viewers on a comedic journey through the icy landscapes of Antarctica, narrated by the unmistakable voice of Samuel L. Jackson. The film cleverly uses real penguin footage interspersed with voiceovers that transform the noble trek of the penguins into a raunchy, adult-oriented comedy. The result is a unique blend of nature documentary and satire that pokes fun at both the genre and societal norms. The film's humor is driven by its anthropomorphic portrayal of the penguins, who are given human-like desires and problems. From their quest for love and sex to their struggles with the harsh Antarctic environment, the penguins' journey is filled with absurd and often risqué situations. The voice cast, including notable comedians like Bob Saget, Lewis Black, and Mo'Nique, adds to the film's irreverent tone. Their performances bring the penguins to life in a way that is both entertaining and audacious, making "Farce of the Penguins" a standout in the world of parody films. Despite its comedic approach, "Farce of the Penguins" also subtly critiques the way documentaries can romanticize nature. By juxtaposing the serene beauty of the Antarctic with the penguins' bawdy behavior, the film challenges viewers to reconsider their perceptions of the natural world. This underlying message, though delivered through humor, adds depth to the film and elevates it beyond mere parody. Overall, "Farce of the Penguins" is a bold and entertaining film that successfully blends satire with the documentary format. Its unique take on the penguin journey, combined with a talented voice cast and sharp writing, makes it a memorable addition to the genre of mockumentaries. Whether you're a fan of nature documentaries or simply enjoy a good laugh, this film offers a fresh and amusing perspective on the world of penguins.
