女主角月山夏世（释由美子饰），原本是一名女性时尚杂志的编辑，由于个性脱线笨拙，很容易轻信别人，经常吃亏。一天，夏世从主编那里得到杂志休刊的通知，突然被调到少女漫画编辑部，并被指定为当红漫画家花园百合子的责任编辑。到超豪华公寓去见该漫画家的夏世被几个助手模样的男子呼来喝去，一会要买漫画参考用的衣服，一会要准备饭菜，一时手忙脚乱，就在她终于爆发，怒吼“我是来见花园百合子的。”之时，得到的回答却是“我们就是花园百合子”。原来，“花园百合子”竟然是住在这里的片冈家四兄弟共用的笔名。老大片冈航（堺雅人饰）负责背景，老二片冈修（池田铁洋饰）负责人物，老三片冈智（要润饰）任经纪人，老四片冈阳（本乡奏多饰）负责故事。为了工作，夏世进驻四兄弟家，开始了他们“跑腿”的生活，也闹出不少笑话。时间一长，她发现四兄弟各有各的烦恼。
