西历200X年，位于北极的多国联合开发基地“赫拉工作站”被邪恶的兰度教授夺取，他率领着金属兽军团企图称霸全世界。为了与之对抗，日本防卫厅要求位于北海道的NISAR出动盖塔机器人作战，而开发负责人橘博士则因为盖塔并非是战斗用的机器人而拒绝，直到在战斗中出现死者，橘博士也决定把盖塔改造为战斗用。从一开始什么武器都没有的试做机到由三台战机合体而成的超级机器人，新生的盖塔开始了它的战斗。
