该片改编自经典故事书《一千零一夜》，围绕着主角，也就是故事讲述者桑鲁卓，和她妹妹多亚德, 国王山努亚, 王子萨曼以及调皮的宠物猴小五展开，讲述他们一起生活的王宫里每天所发生的故事。桑鲁卓总有很多有趣的故事，让大家捧腹大笑，也让他们若有所思。而且他们也经常会在桑鲁卓的故事里露面。故事里还有有一些其他的常驻人物，比如辛巴达，迪娜，穆加布，萨米尔等。每一集中都会出现一些吸引人们注意力的东西，比如飞毯，从而引出接下来的故事。
