《苹果核战记》漫画作品在2004年、2007年两次被改编成CG动画电影，但这次的新作拒绝炒冷饭，绝非原来作品的续集，而是进行了全新的故事创作。在剧情上，新作「苹果核战记XIII」以生化克隆人建立的人工城市“奥林匹斯”作为舞台，以特种部队ES.W.A.T.的战士迪娜及其伙伴布里亚莱奥斯作为主角，讲述了两人卷入了将人类未来交由“生化人”的恐怖主义阴谋事件，并与之展开了对峙的故事。
