故事描述前冰球运动员Matt Shade退役后当私家侦探，但他的搭档Angie Everett并不相信他的能力。当该剧开始时，Matt发现自己中意的一名冰球小职业联盟球员突然在冰面上晕倒。他怀疑另一名球员可能与此事件有关，于是和Angie一起对多名嫌疑人展开调查。两人都很顽固，而且都曾因自身性格问题影响了发展前途，因此两人不停吵嘴（也就是：化学反应）。
