2008年，NBC电视台推出最新恐怖短片剧集《恐怖之源（Fear Itself）》，标题来自前美国总统富兰克林•罗斯福的名言，“我们唯一应恐惧的是恐惧本身（The only thing we have to fear is fear itself）”。该剧集由“恐怖大师”系列的创始人米克•加利斯操刀，延请当时最具盛名的恐怖片导演和制作团队参与，其中包括斯图尔特•戈登（《猛鬼传奇》）、布拉德•安德森（《机械师》）、约翰•兰迪斯（《美国狼人在伦敦》）、罗伯•施密特（《致命弯道》）等享誉海外的重要人物，共同执导了13部风格各异、但均具有一定水准和尖叫指数的恐怖作品。该剧在播放8集后遭腰斩，NBC方面也未给出任何解释。未播放部分日后随DVD一同发行。
