Los Addams son una familia estrafalaria que tiene plantas carnívoras como mascotas. Gómez, el padre, es un tipo siniestro que se tortura a sí mismo. Morticia, la madre, es una vampiresa a la que gusta caminar por el cementerio. Los demás miembros de la familia son sus tétricos hijos Miércoles y Pugsley, el extrañísimo tío Fétido, Lucas, el mayordomo, y Cosa, una mano con vida propia. "La familia Addams", creada a partir de unas tiras cómicas de Charles Addams, fue una popular serie emitida por la ABC desde 1964 a 1966. Propició además una serie de dibujos animados y algunas películas.
