Un avión Boeing 767 llega al aeropuerto neoyorquino JFK y, tras tomar tierra, para en seco en mitad de la pista de aterrizaje. No hay luces y los canales de comunicación no funcionan, es como si no hubiese vida dentro del avión. Al principio todo parece que es a causa de un virus mortal e incluso un atentado terrorista, pero pronto se descubre que es por algo mucho más aterrador.
