Поскольку Вторая Мировая Война закончилась уничтожением Хиросимы и Нагасаки, наука и изобретения стали приоритетными во всем мире. Америка чуть не проиграла гонку с атомными бомбами. Это не должно повториться. С помощью Альберта Эйнштейна и других доверенных советников, Президент Гарри С. Труман уполномочил начать заселение удаленной области Тихоокеанского Северо-запада, чтобы сохранить интеллектуальные ценности Америки. Там величайшие умы, вундеркинды, были бы в состоянии жить и работать в благосклонной окружающей среде. Так появился город Эврика. Но в этом маленьком городе все совсем не так, как в других маленьких городах. Большинство «квантовых прыжков» в науке и технике в течение 50 лет было произведено именно элитными исследователями из Эврики. К сожалению, научные исследования всегда непредсказуемы, и годы экспериментов привели к некоторым побочным явлениям. От невостребованной любви до профессиональной ревности, от склонности до депрессии, проблемы горожан Эврики увеличиваются с каждым днем. Но с уникальными талантами населения и безграничными ресурсами, эти провинциальные проблемы могут стать большими проблемами. Маршал США Джек Картер натыкается на Эврику при транспортировке своей дочери — малолетней преступницы — в Лос-Анджелес к её матери. И так как предыдущий шериф стал калекой, то на эту должность назначают Картера. Несмотря на отсутствие гениальности, как у других жителей города, способность Джека Картера находить общий язык, его простые, но эффективные идеи, практичность и неизменная преданность своей работе постоянно спасают Эврику, а иногда и весь мир, от одного бедствия за другим.
