Die Spreeus (The Starlings) is a South Africa, Afrikaans-language supernatural crime procedural series which tells the story of two fearless detectives - Bas Koorts and Beatrice Mack - who investigate a new phenomenon each week and try to solve crimes... even in worlds that are not our own.

Overview: The mysterious Emmie is arrested late one night in the ruins of an old house. Brigadier Rosa Scheffers suspects that something unusual is afoot, and uses the opportunity to re-establish a special unit: Sergeant Beatrice Mack and Colonel Bas Koorts call themselves the Spreeus. Soon, it appears that Rosa's suspicions were correct.

Overview: Emmie's jealous husband, Petrus, tries to convince the Spreeus that she is out of her mind. Bas suspects he is not telling them the full story, and a supernatural encounter confirms his suspicions. Beatrice remains skeptical and Bas's attempts to convince her almost lead to fatal consequences for Emmie.

Overview: Beatrice befriends Rasheeda, a Bo-Kaap widow who is about to be evicted by developers. When she tries to help, the Spreeus discover that Rasheeda has a visitor from the distant past - and that she will not let herself be shunted around so easily.

Overview: The Spreeus are called in to investigate a fatal accident in the Karoo. They find a broken town, struggling to deal with years of road deaths. What's more, the accident - and the mysterious hitch-hiker who caused it - threaten to destroy a young couple's relationship. Bas and Beatrice decide to take a drive themselves.

Overview: Local policeman Vonnie helps the Spreeus solve the mystery of the mysterious hitch-hiker. But to stop the deaths along the road, they need to dig up the past, and try to heal old wounds. Bas and Beatrice's plan tries to bring consolation, not only for the ghosts, but for the town itself.

Overview: When Annetjie is harassed in her bedroom at night, her husband blames young Victor. But his grandmother - and everyone in the area - claims that the culprit is not human. Bas and Beatrice are initially wary of stories of a tokoloshe, but before long they are confronted with a new kind of evil.

Overview: A wealthy media magnate's young wife, Yvonne, disappears during a magic show. When she does not return, the Spreeus are called in. They suspect that they are being taken for a ride, until she returns a few days later - with one minor difference .

Overview: Henry is an autistic boy with an unusual talent - perhaps rather a curse - to see the future. When he predicts his stepfather's death, he initiates a series of events that puts his own life in grave danger. A tribute to P.G. du Plessis.

Overview: The refined mister Marthinus and his rowdy neighbors don't see eye to eye. When their dog is found dead in the back yard, it becomes a matter for the police. The Spreeus decide to overnight in the house themselves, and the battle against a new creature threatens to destroy them.

Overview: A reality show in a haunted house takes a nasty twist when one of the participants, Lea, claims that her life is being threatened. The Spreeus begrudgingly spend a night in the house. They discover that the threat is not only to Lea, but to everyone inside.

Overview: When the producers of the reality show announce that the participants are to have a séance, doors are opened that should perhaps have remained closed. Bas and Beatrice do their best to protect the participants, while a fearsome army of ghosts claim their revenge.

Overview: Something unholy is brewing on the slopes of the mountain. Children disappear, drawn by a mysterious ice cream truck and a man disguising himself as a woman. Bas and Beatrice are stuck, until help comes from unexpected places.
Shaun Vink (Episode 13)

Overview: Twenty years after he was forced to leave the country, gang boss Shaun Vink returns from overseas. His daughter's life is in danger, and the only suspect is Lou, a shadow from his past. Bas and Beatrice discover that Lou's evil goes far beyond drugs and temptation.
