这是一部讲述宇宙海贼船长哈洛克以及由他指挥的宇宙海贼船阿鲁卡迪亚号的活跃表现的动画，是松本零士原作的冒险故事，是剧场版《我青春的世外桃源》的续篇。哈洛克指挥着阿鲁卡迪亚号从被伊路米达兹侵略占领的地球中逃脱了出来，被全宇宙指名通缉的哈洛克一边躲避着伊路米达兹的攻击一边向着理想乡“阿鲁卡迪亚”进发，一段跨越众多行星的星际旅行就此展开了。
