《传教士》改编自Vertigo公司的漫画，讲述一名德州传教士卡斯特穿越全美，寻找早已废弃职责的上帝，让他重拾往日责任的故事。这位名叫卡斯特的传教士被天使与魔鬼混合的超自然实体“创世纪”(Genesis)附身，能够号令那些听懂他话的人，一同寻找上帝的还有他昔日的女友和一名酗酒的爱尔兰吸血鬼。在路上他们会遇到许多超自然敌人，也需要克服很多困难。
