Die MTV-Reality-Serie begleitet je vier junge Frauen und Männer, die ihren Sommerurlaub gemeinsam in einer WG in einer angesagten Party-Region verbringen, meist in den Seaside Heights am Strand von New Jersey, in Staffel 2 aber auch in Miami Beach und in Staffel 4 in Italien.
Ähnlich wie bei „Big Brother“ werden die Protagonisten in ihrem Ferienhaus von drei Dutzend festinstallierten Kameras Tag und Nacht gefilmt und zusätzlich mit mobilen Kameras bei allen weiteren Aktivitäten verfolgt. Den Zuschauern entgeht damit keine Party, kein Eifersuchtsdrama, kein Patzer beim Ferienjob, keine romantische Fummelei am Strand und kein auch noch so kindischer Streit.
